What is a domestic monoblock pump?

Due to major water shortages all over India, pumps have been used for a long while to move water from one storage to another. Especially in domestic setup where water supply is limited to a few times a week, storage tanks are built to store water which is then pumped into the supply tank  to meet the requirement. 

Another common way of water supply in the domestic sector is by borewell. Borewell is a way of drilling a hole to extract out the ground water. The groundwater pumped is mainly the rainwater that has seeped into the ground and trapped there. These pumps help pull this water out for domestic use. 

Monoblock pumps are manufactured with simple mechanisms for use in the domestic sector covering apartments, individual houses, hotels, hospitals and farm houses. The monoblock borewell pumps are found to be effective for the water level of 250 feet to 400 feet. 

Monoblock pump is best suited for continuous operations and it consumes less power. Monoblock Borewell Pumps are unique pumps which are coupled directly with the motor. The motor cylinders have deep fins for air cooling making it the best choice.

Choosing the right monoblock water pump

Some of the factors to keep in mind while choosing monoblock pump for domestic use are:

  • Domestic Pump Head: This determines capacity in terms of height the pump can lift water. Different models are available to choose from depending on size of the house or number of floors in the apartment. The height is measured by feet or meters.

  • Pumps Inlet and Outlet Size: The incoming water supply pipe and the storage tank pipe connected should match in size of the delivery pipe and the suction pipes diameter.

  • Discharge Rate: This is the number of liters of water that can be pumped per minute. The higher the capacity of water the pump can pull, the better for bigger households or apartments.

  • Material of Construction: The better the material used for construction of the pump the longer it will last. Pumps with cast iron motor body and brass impeller are more durable.

Something to remember is not to overrun the pump or not turn on the pump where there is no water supply as this can reduce the productivity and longevity of the pump.

Understanding HP of monoblock pump

Horsepower of the pump is the minimum power required to run the pump efficiently. This can be calculated by taking into account water flow rate and water pressure. The power of these pumps range from monoblock pump 0.5hp and goes upto 20hp.
